THEMS

THEMS is a sci-fi thriller set in the year 2156, a volatile time when humans have exhausted many of the Earth’s natural resources. A crew of seven in search of the rare element Carbon9 has just completed a successful mission, filling the ship’s hold with rocks mined from an uncharted asteroid. As they ready for the three-month journey home, it’s clear they are not alone.
The show is improvised in a cinematic style around a loose story arc, and the characters are played as a study of human nature. The cast has created a fully fleshed-out background for each of their characters, who have secrets, fears, faults and desires that fuel their interactions—in other words, they’re played as real people. And to keep things fresh, THEMS will feature a special guest star each week, a mysterious stowaway found on board.
While you’re sure to see glimpses of the survival sci-fi/horror movies you know and love, like Alien, Dawn of the Dead and The Thing, the story, characters and mythos of THEMS is completely original. It’s sure to leave a mark of its own on you.

In space, THEMS can hear you scream—which is weird because space is a vacuum.

Plague Day at the Bristol Renaissance Faire – ZOMBIES!

BRAVE KNIGHTS, FAIR MAIDENS, BAWDY WENCHES AND HUNGRY CORPSES!

Chicago’s favorite zombie Kitty invites you to travel back to Ye Good Olde Days at the Bristol Renaissance Faire for PLAGUE DAY this August 15th. What is Plague Day? ZOMBIES AT THE FAIRE! Bristol has opened its oaken gates to Chicago/Milwaukee’s zombie citizens, offering a VERY special zombies-only discount, and sectioning off the Cotwolds Commons area exclusively for the undead! There’ll be prizes, contests, raffles, activities and more! Also known as The Glade, the Commons will be appropriately decorated with a medieval (med-evil?) zombie theme to give it that freshly-dug-grave feeling. So come out to the Faire, grab a pint, eat a wench and enjoy the simple undead pleasures of a bygone age!

Although it should go without saying, we want to see period costume zombies – no Armani Zombies!
Now obviously if you don’t have a costume or simply can’t afford to come in costume, we understand. Just bare in mind that there will be contests JUST for those in costume.

Brought to you by Kitty Zombie and DarkChicago.com

“Cemetery Man”: The Last of the Great Italian Knock-Offs

Facets Night School presents
Cemetery Man (directed by Michele Soavi, 1994)

Rupert Everett (“The Madness of King George”) stars in this horror-comedy (based on the best-selling novel by Tiziano Sclavias) as a hapless Italian groundskeeper who has a cemetery full of vengeful dead who won’t stay dead, including the woman he loves (Anna Falchi, “The City of Lost Children”). Facets Media Relations Coordinator Patrick Ogle looks at this acclaimed, though oft-overlooked, zombie fave, digging into zombie symbiotics, symbols and signs of the living dead, and how the film falls into the great Italian horror tradition.

About Facets Night School:

Facets Night School digs into cinema’s wild side with special Saturday night, midnight lectures on cult favorites led by Facets’ staff, followed by screenings of the films and post-screening discussions. Each student receives an educational packet for the films full of notes, essays, articles, a bibliography for further reading and more with admission. DVD give-aways and pre-class grindhouse trailers round out the night. All for only $5!

Lectures start at midnight!!

Further details on the lectures, films and presenters, as well as tickets, available here:

http://www.facets.org/pages/nightschool.php

Facets Night School is held at Facets Cinematheque, 1517 West Fullerton Ave., Chicago, IL 60614 (near the corner of Fullerton and Ashland)
