This timeless Hispanic legend comes to terrifying life in “The Curse of La Llorona.” La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations. In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain. Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying. In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a curandero, and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide. Beware of her chilling wail…she will stop at nothing to lure you into the gloom. Because there is no peace for her anguish. There is no mercy for her soul. And there is no escape from the curse of La Llorona.
THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA opens nationwide on April 19th, 2019. For more information, visit http://www.TheCurseOfLaLlorona.com

After sending shockwaves across contemporary culture and setting a new standard for provocative, socially-conscious horror films with his directorial debut,Get Out, Academy Award®-winning visionary Jordan Peele returns with another original nightmare that he has written, directed and produced.
Set in present day along the iconic Northern California coastline, Us, from Monkeypaw Productions, stars Oscar® winner Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson, a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband, Gabe (Black Panther’s Winston Duke), and their two children (Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex) for an idyllic summer getaway.
Haunted by an unexplainable and unresolved trauma from her past and compounded by a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide feels her paranoia elevate to high-alert as she grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family.
After spending a tense beach day with their friends, the Tylers (Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon), Adelaide and her family return to their vacation home to discover the silhouettes of four figures standing in their driveway. Us pits an ordinary American family against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgängers of themselves.
US opens nationwide on March 19th, 2019. #Us #UsMovie #WatchYourself

Seances of the Victorian Era Unveiled, March 15th

Friday, March 15, 2019 at 8 PM – 10 PM CDT
The Charnel House, 3421 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60647
Atlas Obscura Society Chicago presents a one-of-a-kind reenactment of an authentic Victorian-era seance in celebration of the birth of one of the world’s great acts- Harry Houdini.
Harry Houdini’s birthday approaches on March 24th. His legend lives on for his escape acts, but Houdini was also one of the most famous “ghostbuster” of the roaring 20s. Attending seances in disguise, he debunked fraudulent mediums quicker than some of the smartest scientists and academics. In preparation for his birthday, we’re crashing our own seance as we reveal some of Houdini’s tricks for catching frauds.
This original stage show is put on by Thom Britton of FreakShow & Tell (and costar of our Sideshow and Sleight of Hand series) and Jonathan Pritchard. Using original practices, this performance will take us through the history of the seance, tell stories of the participants and demonstrate the exact techniques used by psychics and mediums who claimed to contact the dead.
It is important to note that The Seance is not an “actual” seance, nor is it a cheesy ghost tour. This seance is a demonstrative performance of historical techniques and tell stories based on the real history of seance shows from the early 1900s. But that doesn’t mean you won’t leave feeling spooked…
This performance will take place in the Charnel House, a former funeral parlor turned theatre space. The gothic interior woodwork of the chapel dates back to 1928 and still features a few relics from its funerary past.
