Riverfront Playhouse History
The Riverfront Playhouse was established in 1978 as a not for profit organization dedicated to the propagation and pursuit of the arts and artistic performance.  The Riverfront has an ensemble case of about 25 people.  Their passion for theater will be obvious in every play.  The theater itself has plenty of personality.  It is decorated with props and posters.  The historic charm is evident both inside and out.

SLASHER! REVIEW

Slasher! at Gorilla Tango Theatre (http://www.gorillatango.com/)

Directed by Angie McMahon.
Show Rating - R

Synopsis
Don’t go in the basement! Don’t go in the attic! Don’t have sex in the car! Don’t take a shower! And most importantly, don’t assume that it’s over and that you’re safe.  A fully-improvised long-form show in the style of slasher films, based on audience suggestions.  Last show will be Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:30 PM.  Price is $12.00 each.

Reviewed by Brian Meadowcroft
The show starts by taking suggestions from the audience to help develop the story line for a custom horror story.  They take all of the stereotypical scenes from horror films and make them funny.  The best way to describe it would be like Mad Libs.  The killer’s instrument of death is ________, the audience would then help fill in the blank with something such as a “rolled up newspaper”.  The improv group did a great job at developing the story line and coming up with witty and funny solutions to the audience provided answers.  So come on out to Gorilla Tango Theatre and watch a great slasher parody.

Synopsis
Deep inside the women's ward of an insane asylum, the doors open to a select group of clientele. Men who wish to save these girls are free to act upon their most secret desires. But one girl is different. And one man will risk his sanity and even his life to find the girl that haunts his dreams.

As you first enter the theatre you see the women of the insane asylum sitting in their rooms doing various things such slicing up faces in a magazine.  The stage is small but intimate and the brick walls help create an eerie tone.  The set is dimly lit and minimal but does a perfect job of conveying the mood of the play.  This asylum is a place where you learn that not all people can be saved and that it is sometimes hard not to take advantage of the weak.

ONLY $12 for over 8 hours of BLOODY GOOD FUN!

Our goal for this festival is to show the female side of the horror genre in a way that most of the horror fans are not familiar with. Many studios and companies need to stay away from this point of view because it does not attract the audience they are looking for. To us that is a shame. There are so many female directors doing indie horror now without the recognition they need and deserve. This is our chance to show those women that are making these types of films.

SHUTTER ISLAND MOVIE REVIEW

By Brian Meadowcroft
Martin Scorsese who has directed some of my favorite gangster movies of all time (Gangs of New York, Casino and Goodfellas) now tackles the latest mystery thriller Shutter Island.  Shutter Island is based on the Dennis Lehane novel.

The movie starts with two U.S. Marshals: Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) going to investigate a missing persons report at Shutter Island.  Shutter Island contains a hospital for the criminally insane.  As Teddy and Chuck begin their investigations it becomes obvious that many of the people at the hospital have been coached in their responses and that the Doctors in charge are not always telling the truth.  Teddy while on the island is dealing with some of his own mental issues.  Teddy has vivid dreams and flashbacks of the people he was not able to save when fighting in WW2 and the tragic death of his wife Dolores (Michelle Williams) who was burned in a fire at their apartment.  As the secrets of the island and the details of Teddy’s past unfold, the story slowly comes together.

So with that said, we are looking for films (both feature and short) that go along with this theme. Submission fees are real cheap at only $20 for a short or a feature length film.

April 17th will be the final day for submissions. Anything postmarked after that date will not be considered.

Zombies: Bringing the past and present back from the grave

Night of the Living Dead Land of the dead.  Both of these movies could be explained in just one word: ZOMBIES!  These two flicks, although from different times, they have stood the test of time to come out as great, gorey flicks that inspire and excite the monster in all of us.  Whether it is the plot, the gore or simply the zombie makeup, these movies are the basis for all zombie lovers.
Without the horrific genius of Mr. George A Romero, we wouldn't have zombie movies to begin with.  His creativity and eye for detail make his zombies movies the best and are an inspiration for zombie film makers.  I find that what makes these movies fantastic are my three criteria for a gorey good time: plot, acting and makeup.  So sit back relax and lets take a journey into the zombie filled world.

OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS!

WildClaw Theatre is proud to announce that we are accepting submissions for the second annual DEATHSCRIBE Horror Radio Play Festival. We are looking for 10 minute radio scripts that are genuinely scary, imaginative, chilling, intelligent, suspenseful, horrific or downright grotesque. We put no restrictions on contestants as to content or tone, but keep in mind that we are a Horror Theatre. We take our horror seriously, and so should you.

So, if you have a dandy little campfire tale to share - and you know you do - visit http://www.wildclawtheatre.com/wc_html/deathscribe09.html for submission rules and regulations. Likewise, if you know someone who would like to toss their bloody hat in the ring, please feel free to forward this email along. Submission deadline is July 30th, 2009, so get crackin'!

Last year's DEATHSCRIBE (held Oct 6, 2008 at Chicago's historic Music Box Theatre) was an extraordinary evening of live performances of original short radio plays, written by horror enthusiasts and professionals from all around the globe. The thrill of watching skilled foley artists creating sound effects live, right in front of you, is truly like no other. With live musical accompaniment, special guest directors and a celebrity panel to judge the best in the fest, the night was magical and we're looking to do it again, bigger and better!

(To listen to the live recordings of DEATHSCRIBE 2008, go to http://wildclawbloodradio.blogspot.com/ and look in the upper right hand corner. Podcasts are also available on ITunes.)

Women of Horror Film Festival in Chicago

Horror Society Presents… Women of Horror Film Festival

We are thrilled to announce Horror Society’s 4th Film Festival in April at the Portage Theater in Chicago, IL.

With each festival we try to bring a new and different theme into the movie theater, and this time it’s Lady’s Night!

On Saturday, April 25th from 5pm to 12am, Horror Society will feature films directed, produced, written by women and/or have females in the lead role.

Our goal for this festival is to show the female side of the horror genre in a way that most of the horror fans are not familiar with. We want to display females in horror as the lead, dominant role instead of the victim. Many studios and companies tend to stay away from this point of view because it does not attract the audience they are looking for. To us that is a shame. We will also be showcasing and screening many films that have been directed, produced or written by women in the horror industry. There are so many female directors doing Indie Horror now without the recognition they need and deserve.

This is our chance to support these women that are not only directing and producing Independent Horror, but the strong women that are in front of the camera as well.

We will also be holding both a Silent Auction and Horror Raffle with some great items. All proceeds will be donated to the Lynn Sage Foundation to support Breast Cancer Research.
The theater is located on 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave in Portage Park. It’s a beautiful theater located in a great part of the city with state of the art equipment. The festival will run from 5pm to 12am with vendors, giveaways, and more. With each of our festivals we try to put the spotlight on some local talent as well, so we will be having trailers of local Chicago Indie horror films playing throughout the night.

The lineup has been chosen and the guests have been confirmed….

:Films:
Phobia
Wretched
Death in Charge
The Wigly
Side Effect
The Making of Sculpture
